It’s the look, it’s the look — the look of lo-o-o-ove!

I’ve been amusing myself throughout the World Cup by remarking on the many and varied attractions of the modern professional footballer.  I am an enormous football fan– wait, that didn’t come out exactly right.  I am not enormous.  But I do love football, and I particularly love watching the clash of styles from different continents that the World Cup makes so apparent.  Though this is being eroded by the export of coaches from Scandinavia to under-achieving nations around the globe.

But I digress.  Those who pay attention to my Twitterings or follow me on Facebook may have noticed my attention straying from the intricacies of the 4-3-3 versus 4-5-1 formations, or the incredible noise of the vuvuzelas, and rhapsodising about the particular attractions of individual footballers.  But is this not what the World Cup is for?  Many footballers take the World Cup as an opportunity to attract new suitors, and they devise numerous odd gambits to do this (including the Romanian team’s notorious collective bleaching).

But there are some players whose natural attractions shine through.  My attention has been captured by a couple in particular thus far.  Or should I say, my regard has been recaptured after a spell of indifference by reason of inexposure.  I speak, of course, of Lucas Podolski, who combines my favourite European nationalities in one man.  Polish, and German.  What a combination!

Isn’t he gorgeous?  In fact, the Germans have by far the highest phwoarr quotient thus far of all the teams I’ve seen (and I’ve watched all the games so far).

Herr Podolski is only rivalled in my affections by Gonzalo Higuain of Argentina.  Very nice indeed.

Honourable mentions go to Nikita Rukavytsya of Australia, who really ramped up the phwoarr quotient in the Germany vs Australia match quite markedly.

I’ll continue with posts in this vein as the World Cup progresses.  I thank you.

Ah, the World Cup is here!  Now, my reputation as an avid, unapologetic sports fan may precede me, but I am going to share with you a simply stunning bit of graphic design, interactivity, and polished professional web content that still makes me smile when I use it.

Amazing work.  Am hugely looking forward to this World Cup, I think it’s going to be stonkingly good.  And I drew Spain in the office sweepstake!  Life is indeed, as Mr. Kipling once said, exceedingly good cakes.
